My Favorite Books of 2015: SciFi and Dystopian
Check out my Favorite Books of 2015: SciFi and Dystopian! These aren’t my favorite kinds of books to read, but I still found some great choices!
Welcome to My Favorite Books of 2015 post series! I’ve also talked about my Favorite YA Fantasy Books of 2015, my Favorite YA Realistic Fiction and my Favorite YA Mysteries of 2015.
Today I’m talking about Science Fiction and Dystopian books. I can’t say I read a lot of those this year — I don’t read a ton of SciFi and I’ve been feeling like I needed a break from Dystopians for the past year or two.
Ten Thousand Skies Above You by Claudia Gray
Here’s what I said about Ten Thousand Skies Above You By Claudia Gray (Harper)
While I really enjoyed the first book in this trilogy, I think I liked Ten Thousand Skies Above You even more. I loved that it used the parallel universe concept to serve up some truly surprising plot twists. And that some of those plot twists involved Marguerite having a moral crisis when she’s faced with the repercussions of some of the things she did in book one. The book ends with a very fun twist, one that makes me look forward to the final installment!

Soulprint by Megan Miranda
Here’s what I said about Soulprint by Megan Miranda (Bloomsbury)
Soulprint is an excellent sci-fi thriller with a super-cool premise, but it’s also a story with philosophical themes, well-developed characters, and a touching romance. There are science-y aspects, but if you’re not a fan of that, the science isn’t a huge part of the story. I loved the way the book ingeniously blends something age-old — the idea that souls can be reincarnated — with something speculative and high-tech — the idea that souls can be analyzed like DNA and then tracked when they are reborn in a new body. Soulprint has a little something for every reader: an intriguing scientific premise, a daring prison break, some interesting philosophical questions, and a sweet romance. Ashley’s right — give it a try!

Wolf by Wolf by Ryan Graudin
Here’s what I said about Wolf by Wolf by Ryan Graudin (Little, Brown)
Wolf by Wolf is an interesting mash-up: a little bit alt-history, a little bit sci-fi/paranormal, and a lot of revenge story. The book plays into the whole YA twin/doppleganger trope that I’ve discussed on the blog in a big way. Yael is impersonating Adele, who is herself a twin — fraternal, thankfully, or my head would have exploded… There was also a touch of romance — just a little bit, because, you know, a breakneck motorcycle race doesn’t leave much time for that. This is the kind of plot-driven book that I like, one that makes me really care about the main character and her story goal.”

I recently read A Thousand Pieces of You and I thought it was just ok. I really enjoyed the moments with Paul in Russia, but found the rest of it a little boring. I didn't know what the second one was going to be about, and now after reading your little blurb about it, I think I want to continue with the series. 😀

I really enjoyed soulprint. it was really good. i am excited to start ten thousand skies about you. I loved the first one and i know you liked the second even more. So yay for that. Can't wait.
