Beverly Lark is the granddaughter of Albert Starling, legendary puppeteer and founder of the Flock Workshop and its beloved educational children’s show, Birds on the Block. Griffin Harvey is an award-winning rock musician who’s hiding a couple of big secrets.
When Griffin and Beverly meet cute on a late night show (with Beverly voicing Bernie Bird and poking fun at Griffin’s aloof rocker persona) they end up in a fauxmance that might help them both.
Beverly desperately needs funding to keep Birds on the Block alive. Griffin needs a spark of creative inspiration for his new album, plus his fans went wild at his funny interactions with Bernie (aka Beverly).
Does Love Felt Like This belong on my top-rated fall romance list? It does take place in late fall to winter, so I’ll squeak it in. But if you’re looking for a book with serious fall vibes, there are other books on this list you might want to try first.
What did I enjoy about Love Felt Like This?
First off, I love a celebrity romance! Second, I grew up watching Sesame Street, and this book is a love letter to the art of puppetry and an advocate for the importance of children’s educational programming. Beverly’s dedication to her craft and to making people laugh was truly inspiring! The opposites attract (or grumpy sunshine) element of the book was fun too!
Love Felt Like This was definitely a slow burn story. Both Griffin and Beverly are cautious about falling in love. Both are adjusting to the loss of someone important to them. Plus, Beverly was cheated on and dumped by her high school sweetheart, who is also a musician.
Love Felt Like This had:
- Dual POV
- A small town North Carolina setting, with occasional visits to Los Angeles
- ALL the tropes: celebrity romance, grumpy/sunshine, fake dating, small town charm, single dad, make your ex see what he’s missing.
- A medium spice level that should work for most readers.
