Plot Summary for Instant Karma
Overachieving high school student Prudence Barnett is quick to cast judgment on others. So she’s thrilled when, after a night out with her friends, she wakes up with the sudden ability to bring instant karma to those around her. Pru gleefully punishes vandals and abled people who park in disabled parking spots.
But after a class project debacle, Pru resigns herself to working with Quint, her slacker lab partner, at a sea animal rescue center for extra credit. There she gains new insights on the line is between virtue and vanity, generosity and greed, love and hate . . . and fate.

Talk about bad luck: Instant Karma came out during the pandemic and I didn’t review it. So when I was invited to participate in the blog tour for book two in the Fortuna Beach series, With a Little Luck, I decided to re-read it and write a review!
Instant Karma is a classic YA contemporary romance that uses one of the most beloved Twilight tropes: being paired up for a lab or class project with someone you can’t stand.
Class projects are bad enough, am I right? Plus Pru is the overachiever, the one who feels like she does all the work. She seethes as Quint, her breezy partner, doesn’t do the project the way she wants.
But then their teacher hates her take on the project. Pru begins to see that Quint has strengths of his own, and the book shows her learn to be less judge-y.
Instant Karma has a charming cast of characters that includes Pru’s twin brother, Jude, plus her siblings, Ellie, Lucy, and Penny. If you missed the theme there, Pru’s parents own a record shop and are obsessed with the Beatles!
