When Reason Breaks by Cindy L. Rodriguez: Blog Tour and Book Spine Poetry

When Reason Breaks by Cindy L. Rodriguez is a 2015 YA contemporary book that was inspired by the poetry of Emily Dickinson. I’m making some book spine poetry of my own as part of the Blog Tour!

I’m excited to be part of the Bloomsbury blog tour for When Reason Breaks by Cindy L. Rodriguez.

Here’s a little more about the book!

A Goth girl with an attitude problem, Elizabeth Davis must learn to control her anger before it destroys her. Emily Delgado appears to be a smart, sweet girl, with a normal life, but as depression clutches at her, she struggles to feel normal. Both girls are in Ms. Diaz’s English class, where they connect to the words of Emily Dickinson. Both are hovering on the edge of an emotional precipice. One of them will attempt suicide. And with Dickinson’s poetry as their guide, both girls must conquer their personal demons to ever be happy.

Cindy L. Rodriguez is a former newspaper reporter turned public school teacher. She now teaches as a reading specialist at a Connecticut middle school but previously worked for the Hartford Courant and the Boston Globe. She and her young daughter live in Plainville, Connecticut. This is her debut novel.

For my stop on the tour, I was asked to write some book spine poetry, which is a fun thing that I rarely find time to do.

  1. Oh this sounds such a a amazing book. I did Emily Dickinson at school and it really was a mind of two worlds sometimes, so dark and light at the same time. So I would love to see this effects two girls in different ways. Great book poetry too. Lovely post, Jen.

  2. I love the poetry you have concocted here, Jen – it's quite remarkable, especially the second one. Must try this exercise for myself 🙂 No, I'm not entering the giveaway… Just stopped by to say how interesting When Reason Breaks sounds. Can't wait to get my hands on it!

  3. Awww, I absolutely adore the second poem. It feels absolutely powerful, especially this line: "when reason breaks, just listen, before I fall." DAMN, THE FEELS, DUDE. THE FEELS. You know how to write a poem, Jen! 😉

  4. I absolutely adore the second poem, Jen! It just works so well and it's beautiful! I wish I had the time to attempt book spine poetry but it's surprisingly hard. Even now, I am staring at my books trying to find a formulation that works 😛 BUT THEY DON'T *sigh*

    Thanks for sharing, Jen!! 🙂
