The Paris Match was such an interesting blended of themes and elements.
Layla is a cool and composed doctor recently divorced from her ex-husband Jamie. But when Jamie’s sister Emily gets engaged, Emily insists that Layla be included in the wedding.
This situation makes both Layla and Jamie, who has a new girlfriend, feel awkward.
Love interest Griffin clearly survived some kind of terrible trauma, but wants to be at the wedding for his best friend Michael, the groom. When Emily seems to be having second thoughts, Griff insists that he and Layla figure out how to make sure the wedding goes forward.
Griff, who also has some physical scars, is perceived by Layla as a sort of mysterious, brooding Beauty and the Beast figure (she calls him a fae prince, so maybe the Maas version of The Beast.)
Though there was a lot going on, I think the author managed to skillfully weave together two relationship stories (Griff and Layla, plus Emily and Michael. There are also themes of reclaiming your life and your memories, good or bad, and the way families are extended and then sometimes broken and awkwardly mended.
The Paris Match had:
- A brooding and mysterious male love interest paired with a cool and competent female
- A Paris setting that was so much fun and beautifully described.
- Themes of family bond and strife, of working out issues in a relationship
- Some very spicy scenes
- The early reviews suggest that other readers are loving this as much as I did, so give it a try
