Bennie is all about the holiday season. She works at a bakery at the Cooper Family Organic Farm, which sells Christmas trees. She and her friends have a Horrible Hallmark Movie Marathon and exchange ugly Christmas socks each year. They also reverse carol (knock on your door and demand a song. )
When Bennie meets cute with Eve at the farm, literally bumping into Eve and spilling hot apple cider on her, it’s love at first sight. Bennie becomes obsessed with Eve.
So Bennie, with the help of her merry (and a bit manic) group of high school friends, tracks Eve all the way to Brooklyn, using the slimmest of clues. In a blizzard.
The positives of this book? The energy of Bennie and her merry group of BFFs. The love at first sight obsession, which is also a common teenage thing. The level of Christmas cheer.
The negatives, for me, were the sheer number of characters and the relentless feel of the story. I was more in the mood for a cozy story for a rainy day, and this book exhausted me a little. I’m a long way from being a teenager, so it could be that.
