Review of Christmas People by Iva-Marie Palmer

Christmas People was a unique and fun “meta” story about a screenwriter who hates Christmas and, after a boozy night out, finds herself trapped in “Sweetville,” which is basically a Hallmark movie come to life.

Jill Jacobs is not a Christmas person after being unceremoniously dumped by her last boyfriend during the holidays. She heads home to Powell Park to spend the holidays and, after a fun night out, finds herself trapped in a place called Sweetville.

Even weirder, her ex is there, her high school crush is there, and she’s forced to participate in a baking competition, where she’s paired up with each of the guys during different rounds.

Will Jill ever escape Sweetville? Will she find love in her love triangle? Will she learn to love Christmas again?

Christmas People Had:

  • A unique magical realism premise
  • Some good-natured mocking of Hallmark movie tropes
  • A good amount of holiday cheer, including baking, an ornament making party, skating and Christmas carols.
  • One open door love scene
  • Publication date: September 30, 2025 by St. Martin’s Griffin. Thanks so much to them for the advance review copy.

This Book is Perfect For:

Fans of movies like Freaky Friday or The Holiday Switch.
