I’ve been reading romance since my teenage years. Yes, I KNOW that some old school romance had toxic elements. And I’m happy that we’ve (largely) left all that behind.
But sometimes “new style” romance in which two cinnamon roll characters banter and make heart eyes at each other for 350 pages can make me zone out a little bit?
I don’t want toxic romance but I do want some tension. Some sense of risk. And some stakes!
Laney and Connor are an example of opposites attracting. She’s an artsy photographer, he’s a hard charging CEO. But his workaholic tendencies made her leave her wedding ring on the kitchen counter and head back to her hometown.
In short, Connor convinces her to date him for one month (December) before she moves forward with ending their marriage.
