Review of Save the Date by Mallory Kass

I didn’t realize that Save the Date by Mallory Kass was (kind) of a retelling of two wedding rom coms, one I loved and one I loathed. I had similarly mixed feelings about this book, which featured three romantic plotlines!

The book is set on remote Sandpiper Island, Maine. Influencer Marigold is excited to marry Jonathan, a pediatric oncologist. Marigold has annoyed her hard-edged older sister, Olivia, but choosing her nervous aspiring writer friend Natalie as her maid of honor.

The book begins with a prologue that lets us know that this wedding will NOT go as planned.

Save the Date had three romantic plotlines, one each for Marigold, Olivia, and Natalie.

Marigold’s plotline was a pitch-perfect retelling of Sweet Home Alabama, while Natalie’s reminded me a little of my least favorite wedding rom com, My Best Friend’s Wedding. I was kind of shocked at her plotline, and not really a fan.

But Olivia’s story was my favorite. I love a character with a hard shell and a gooey center. For more details (including spice level and a content warning) read on!
